Pureojuice is the rising sensation the internet can't get enough of. Popularly known for his Tiktok and YouTube skits that saw him pass as a Yxng Bane and KSI lookalike, he has accumulated over a million streams on Spotify and YouTube, proving he can achieve anything he sets his mind to.
Below, PureOjuice highlights the harsh reality of being a content creator and his admiration for people who speak and act freely.
"We’re living in modern-day slavery. You work for something, and they give you a wage. You mean to tell me an hour of my life is worth a bus journey?"
Baba: What made you start your YouTube channel?
PureOjuice: I wanted to express myself.
Has it helped you do that?
Yeah, because I can do and say whatever I want - it’s my channel.
Do you get any backlash because of the content you post?
Yes, I get backlash and hate comments. I get triggered and sometimes reply.
Sometimes, you say? Do you think you should be replying at all?
I feel I should never reply but I do. I saw a comment under one of my videos that said, "this was the worst reaction". I replied saying, "f*ck your dad, f*ck your mum, f*ck your nan.” I can’t lie I felt good because I had ignored a few before that.
Ha, so just one was good?
Yeah.
Have you learned anything since you started YouTube?
Yeah, I learned you shouldn’t let it rule you. I check my views every day and if I’m not happy with the amount, I feel bad.
Because of a goal you have set for yourself?
Yeah, because I want to be successful. But why should that determine my mood? If I have like a good video, I’m feeling good. But if I don’t then I’m like ‘who am I?’
That’s the thing - you can’t let anything influence your mood. You need to stay positive. That’s the thing with social media though, it constantly influences your mood.
It’s evil fam.
Do you feel like you’d have more money right now if we didn't have social media? If we were living in the 90s for example?
I haven’t thought of that before.
I’m not saying you for sure could have. I’m wondering if you think so.
There’s still slavery.
Huh?
Why do a lot of people not want to work normal jobs?
What do you mean by the slavery comment?
We’re living in modern-day slavery. You work for something, and they give you a wage. You mean to tell me an hour of my life is worth a bus journey? You can’t even make it to Birmingham from Leicester with an hourly wage.
If there weren't social media, I probably would have found a focus that I wasn't interested in. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with social media. I feel like the problem is when people try and change who you are. Are you going to tell people that have sex with robots to not have sex with robots? This has nothing to do with social media, it’s their limitations. If they can’t talk to girls outside because they have anxiety and choose to stay at home and have sex with robots, that’s their happiness. Let it be theirs.
Who inspires you?
Outspoken people like Kanye West.
With all of Kanye’s controversy, what do you feel about him right now?
I was watching his 2013 interview and he basically predicted the future. Everything he said came true! He spoke about creating Yeezy’s with Nike and how they were trying to undermine him. He mentioned that he asked Nike when he can do another release, but they weren’t taking him seriously. Kanye knew himself, what he wanted, and that he wasn't being given the respect he deserved. So, he left and went to Adidas. That’s admirable. He knew he would do it regardless. However, every time he speaks, he sounds crazy.
One of my friends was telling me Kanye looks down on all of us because he's figured out the way humans think - like he cracked a code or something.
People don’t realise that everyone acts like robots. Kanye is doing what he wants. When he goes on stage and shares his opinions, he doesn’t care who agrees or disagrees. I think that should be normal.
But can everyone be like that?
No, everyone can't be like that. If you’re not like that though, then you're not fully expressing yourself. Kanye expresses himself.
For example, people say you can’t like Donald Trump. How can you tell someone who to like? Fair enough, you don’t agree with him…
I remember telling my uncle Donald Trump was going to win, and he told me to shut up.
*laughs*
He knew people's minds. He knew what people were thinking but was too scared to say. He got the silent voters - the people who have the same beliefs in their heads but were too afraid to speak out loud because of the backlash.
That's mad. The population of America that's racist voted for Donald Trump. I didn’t deep that.
Yeah, man. Most of them are racist, I guess. Everything we see about Donald Trump, it’s all media influenced though. Our opinion is probably programmed as well. Everyone liked Donald Trump before he became president, he just figured out how to win.
Since you started YouTube, what’s your proudest achievement?
Every year is like a different thing…
